When I first got into CB, way, way back, this radio had come onto the market, single side-band sets were very few and far between here in New Zealand, because we used to have a 26 MHz CB band here ( I think the only other country that did this was Japan), due to how the VHF low analog TV Channels were allocated.
This in turn meant that you could only talk people on NZ with AM/SSB sets that transmitted on the same band plan, however, I seem to remember during the sun-spot cycle of 1990 on, speaking with people from Australia and the US, I still have not worked out how this happened.
Although I didn't have that great of an antenna connected to the radio back then, it was really quite surprising how well this radio pulled signals in from seemingly nowhere.
Funny thing about this radio is that even though the SWR meter seemed like a bit of a gimmick, it is deadly accurate when compared with a quality meter.
The biggest downside to these radios is though, after time, the LED display starts to fail, (as mine has) and it is hard to work out which channel you're on, I'm about to repair it though.
